Today’s question:

If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, how many peppers did Peter Picker pick?

I get this question all the time and, for some reason, people insist on repeating it several times, as fast as they can, until their tongues twist so badly I have to refer them to a chiropractor.

A waste of time because, psychologically speaking, they are asking the wrong question. What their subconscious really wants to know is: “If Peter Pecker pricked a prick of pickled peckers, how many peckers did Peter Pricker prick?”

In other words, is Peter a prick with a pecker or simply a pepper with a prick? As for the pickling business, who knows? I understand pickling’s legal in California but not in Texas. If you want to know more about pickles, go to your deli and leave me alone.
